WSLC

I'm listening to my daughter DJ her radio show on WSLC. Unlike the last show I listened to, which was taken over by twenty-something scatologically obsessed males, this installment actually features music with a variety of influences : the nasal drone of Leonard Cohen, the female energy of Jerry Lee Lewis, Tiny Tim's antic uke, Arvo Part's Miserere, Neil Young's Canadian drawl, Moog, the Beatles diabolically innocent harmonies, Yoko Ono's rockabilly, the hurdygurdy rants of Captain Beefheart, the postfuturist clogging of Oregon kitchen dancers, & the melodious echo of fogdrifts on Frostian catfeet.  All in all, a good show. Obviously, learned everything from her old man, who used to sit in smokeclouds and stitch together music tapes on his reeltoreel recorder while the big man upstairs stomped on his floor/my ceiling and jumped the needle on the turntable spinning Led Zeppelin & Pharoah's The Creator Has A Master Plan for anyone within a four block radius to hear.  Signing off....................................

It's the Bronx. By that time, she was living with one of her sons. She was probably not living in a burrow, but in a borough, unless she was a rabbit. (Sorry, ever the writing instructor). I haven't forgotten about the photos.

Some of the info on the certificate is at odds with other sources. For instance, this says her father's last name was Poppi, but the immigration records say Costa. Also Chirdi is probably Ciardi. Even her first name in other records is changed to Sarah. Maybe she americanized it, but more likely the clerk heard it as the more familiar(to him) "Sarah". An explanation for Poppi might be that her son didn't know her maiden name and Poppi might be the town she came from. When you start looking at these records, it's amazing how many of these inconsistencies there are, probably due to unfamiliarity with cultures, languages, geography...or in some cases a lack of caring about accuracy (if you're going house to house day after day and hand recording information for small wages, you might lose your incentive to be accurate, In addition, xenophobia could come into play or fear of discovery of illegal entry into the country).
